Passenger Dies After Plane Encounters Severe Turbulence

On May 21, 2024, a Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-312ER operating as Flight 321 experienced severe turbulence while flying from London to Singapore. The incident resulted in the tragic death of one passenger. This marks a rare occurrence of a fatality due to turbulence on a commercial flight.

Flight SQ321 was cruising at an altitude of 37,000 feet when the aircraft encountered unexpected turbulence. Flight tracking data shows a sudden drop in altitude, indicating the severity of the conditions. The incident left several passengers injured, with one sustaining fatal injuries.

The flight, which departed from London Heathrow Airport at 10:38 pm local time, was carrying 211 passengers and a crew of 12. The aircraft made an emergency landing at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport, where medical assistance was provided to the injured passengers.

Singapore Airlines has expressed its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased passenger and is providing support to all those affected by the incident. The airline is working with authorities to investigate the cause of the turbulence and ensure the safety of passengers on future flights.
