Many people injured after lightning strike in Germany

Four people seriously injured after lightning strikes group of ten on the banks of the river Elbe in Dresden

Four people are fighting for their lives and six others have been injured after lightning struck a group of ten people on the banks of the river Elbe in Dresden, Germany.

The group were sheltering under a tree during a thunderstorm when the lightning struck, and all ten were taken to hospital where four were said to be in a life-threatening condition.

Police have cordoned off the area and are investigating the incident.

A spokesperson for the German Weather Service said that the storm was "very unusual" for this time of year, and warned that there could be more thunderstorms in the area in the coming days.
